Ambitious 1-2 Special has swooped on North American rights to Erupcja, Pete Ohs’ recent Toronto International Film Festival premiere that stars Charli XCX.
Jeremy O. Harris, constant Ohs collaborator Will Madden, and Lena Góra star in the story, shot guerilla-style in Warsaw, Poland, about two women who compulsively complicate their romantic lives.
When Bethany, played by Charli XCX, and her modern boyfriend travel to Warsaw to visit her childhood friend Nel, played by Góra, the three become entangled in a romantic web that forces them to question their place in the universe.
The film premiered in Centrepiece and TIFF New Wave Selects. 1-2 Special will release theatrically in 2026 after negotiating the deal with CAA Media Finance on behalf of the filmmakers. Magnify handles international sales.
Ohs served as writer, producer, director, editor, and cinematographer on Erupcja, following his original process that finds inspiration in a specific location. Charli XCX, playwright Harris, Will Madden, and Góra contributed to the screenplay.
Ohs said: “Finally, another cool distributor exists to champion cool movies. We need more of them. I have a lot of hope for 1-2 Special. They are already off to a strong start with films by Harris Dickinson, Christian Petzold, Simón Mesa Soto and two by Radu Jude. It’s a club I’m happy to be a part of.”
Since launching earlier this year, 1-2 Special has acquired Soto’s Un Certain Regard jury prize-winner A Poet, which was just announced as Colombia’s Oscar submission; Dickinson’s Cannes Un Certain Regard premiere Urchin; Christian Petzold’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight entry Mirrors No. 3; and Jude’s Locarno selection Dracula.
