The SAG Awards are intended to honor acting accomplishments across film and TV, but they’re also an critical bellwether: Screen Actors Guild members are also the largest voting branch in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which means that as SAG goes, so might the Oscars.
At the 2025 SAG Awards, races to watch include Best Motion Picture Ensemble, which sees SAG’s most nominated film, Wicked, up against Anora the full-fledged Cinderella story of the year. Will the Oscars’ best picture frontrunner, fresh from triumph at Saturday’s Independent Spirit Awards. lock things up with a win in that category? Or will different winner—Conclave‘s deep bench of performances springs to mind—rise to make the race a bit more thrilling?
On the TV side of things, Shōgun, Hacks, and Baby Reindeer are expected to continue their awards season runs—but keep an eye out for the Best Female Actor in a Comedy Series category. While our awards experts expect that Jean Smart will take that award home for Hacks, Kristen Bell, this evening’s host, is also up for her work in Nobody Wants This.
“Well, my game plan is to take a beta-blocker for the whole night, and that’s going to help a lot,” Bell told Vanity Fair about that double duty. “I also don’t think I’ll win, which is also fine, because it’s kind of my biggest fear to have to make an off-the-cuff, really charming, poignant speech in front of all of my peers and nail it.”
