Tim Roth’s next movie featuring a Shōgun star just got a thrilling recent look. Roth has been set to play the lead role in Tornado, the upcoming action thriller that also stars Takehiro Hira alongside Game of Thrones veteran Rory McCann, who is famed for playing The Hound in the HBO series. Collider is thrilled to partner with IFC Films to unveil the first exclusive trailer for Tornado, which premiered at the Glasgow Film Festival in February. In addition to Roth, Hira, and McCann, Jack Lowden and Kōki, have also been set for roles in Tornado, which is a thriller coming from writer/director John Maclean. Maclean made his feature debut in Slow West, the 2015 R-rated Western thriller starring Kodi Smit-McPhee opposite Caren Pistorius.

Tornado is set against the rugged backdrop of slow 1700s Britain. The film follows Tornado, a juvenile and determined Japanese woman who lands in the middle of a perilous situation when she and her father’s puppet Samurai show cross paths with a gang of ruthless criminals led by Sugar (Roth) and his son, Little Sugar (Lowden). While attempting to create a recent life for herself, she spots an opportunity to take matters into her own hands and steal the haul from the gang’s most recent score. Now that her father has been murdered by the gang and her life is in peril, Tornado must race against time to avoid death while also avenging her father’s passing. The first poster for Tornado has already been released, showing a radiant blue backdrop with radiant red letters and what appears to be a splatter of blood.

What Is Tim Roth Best Known For?

Tim Roth was nominated for an Oscar for his work in Rob Roy, the 1995 R-rated docudrama starring Liam Neeson opposite Jessica Lange, but he has not been recognized with any recognition from the Academy in the 30 years since. Roth is also renowned for starring opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Walton Goggins in The Hateful Eight, the whodunit mystery Western from Quentin Tarantino. He also worked with Tarantino 21 years prior on Pulp Fiction. Roth is even known for his role as Abomination in the early days of the MCU, but he reprised that role for the first time in over 10 years in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, the Disney+ series led by Tatiana Maslany.

Tornado will arrive in theaters on May 30, 2025. Check out the exclusive trailer for Tornado above and stay tuned to Collider for future updates and coverage of the film.
