Wake up! No, you aren’t dreaming — the beginning of the end is here. Today, Netflix has revealed the official teaser and first set of images for the second and final season of The Sandman. Fans have been waiting for well over two years for this announcement, and we also finally know when the production will awaken onto your television set. This time around, the 11-episode season will be broken into two volumes, with the first six taking flight on July 3 and the last five arriving a few weeks later on July 24. Leaving no character behind, the debut teaser welcomes audiences back into the fantastical world adapted from the comic book series created by Neil Gaiman.

Destiny is calling the Endless family together once more in the trailer for The Sandman Season 2. No, we mean literally, as the Tony Award-nominated Adrian Lester steps into the role of the eldest member of the family. One by one, the group answers his call, and lend their ears to listen to see what their older sibling has to say. New characters are introduced, and a battle begins, as we’re once again pulled into the vibrantly shadowy world.

Judging by the first-look trailer, those out there hoping that the series will go out in the biggest and dreamiest way possible will get their wish. The go substantial or go home attitude is only stoked further by the enormous additions made to the cast for the sophomore installment. Along with Lester’s Destiny, other newcomers include Barry Sloane (The Bay) as The Prodigal, Esmé Creed-Miles (Hana) as Delirium, Ruairi O’Connor (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) as Orpheus, Laurence O’Fuarain (The Witcher: Blood Origin) as Thor, Freddie Fox (House of the Dragon) as Loki, Clive Russell (Sherlock Holmes) as Odin, and more.

‘The Sandman’s Long Road To Season 2

Like so many other highly-anticipated titles, Season 2 of The Sandman first hit major roadblocks due to the historical writers’ and actors’ strikes that took place in 2023. By November 2023, cameras were back up and rolling, capturing the next chapter in the story centered around Tom Sturridge’s titular character. Unfortunately, fans would soon be dealt a much more devastating blow when sexual assault allegations against the original comic book series’ writer, Gaiman, began to come out of the woodwork. It was gutting for followers of the author to learn about the harrowing claims, and, just a few days later, Netflix announced that Season 2 would be The Sandman’s last. While the studio never outwardly said the decision was due to the allegations, the proximity certainly made it seem like such.

You can welcome the beginning of the end with the first look images and teaser above.
