“As you travel the path of knowledge, your connection to the Force grows stronger… Entrust yourself to the flow of nature – let it guide you.” Yes! They’re back with more! One of the many debuts during Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan this past weekend was a first look at the next collection of Star Wars shorts in the Star Wars: Visions series. The first volume of Star Wars: Visions anime shorts launched in 2021, with Volume 2 debuting in 2023, and now we have another set of nine awe-inspiring recent shorts arriving later in 2025. One of the nine is titled Black, and director Shinya Ohira (from the same studio who made the Kill Bill: Vol. 1 animated segment) personally introduces a 30-second clip. This one wowed me the most – a Tie fighter vs X-wing scene with such a distinct look (I dig the cackle when it goes into the cockpit). All of these recent shorts look incredible! I adore this series! There’s always so much creativity, so many unique stories & ideas. I really, really love the visual styles here. There’s two recent previews below – view both and be amazed.
Here’s the two early teasers for Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars: Visions – Volume 3 series, from YouTube:
Star Wars: Visions will be a series of animated compact films celebrating Star Wars through the lens of the world’s best anime creators. In Visions Volume 3, the animated anthology returns to where it all began with nine shorts from nine different anime studios, including returning contributors Kamikaze Douga, Kinema Citrus Co., Production I.G., and Trigger. The next installment in this animation series will also introduce five recent anime studios to the world of Star Wars: ANIMA (co-production with Kamikaze Douga), David Production, Polygon Pictures, Project Studio Q, and WIT Studio — to further demonstrate the diversity and creativity of Japanese animation. Disney will debut Star Wars: Visions – Volume 3 streaming on Disney+ worldwide starting on October 29th, 2025 coming this fall. The segment made by Production I.G., directed by Shin’ya Ôhira, is titled “Black”. And there is another recent Star Wars: Visions series spin-off called The Ninth Jedi coming later this year. Who else is excited for more of these?
