The most threatening hunter of all is on the prowl today in the debut trailer for Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands. We’ve been on the edge of our seats waiting for more information to come about the Elle Fanning-led feature since it celebrated its first look at CinemaCon. Now, for those who weren’t so lucky to be in attendance, 20th Century Studios have unveiled a captivating peek at the next chapter in the beloved sci-fi horror franchise.

In Trachtenberg’s last Predator movie, 2022’s Prey, he took audiences back in time to 1719, where we watched on the edge of our seats as a Comanche warrior named Naru (Amber Midthunder) did everything in her power to keep her people unthreatening. This time, the director is still following a female protagonist, but taking audiences far off into the future, on a visually stunning planet. As we learned back at CinemaCon, the Predator is in need of aid in the upcoming film, which will see it team up with Fanning’s leading lady. In a set of first-look images to accompany the teaser, we see Trachtenberg’s vision come to life, with plenty of spectacular-looking settings and even the Predator with its jaws open ready to attack.

Where Else is Dan Trachtenberg Taking the ‘Predator’ Franchise?

Like we’ve seen with Alien, the Predator franchise has enjoyed its fair share of hits and misses. But, things began heating up for the series thanks to Trachtenberg’s Prey, which, with 94%, holds the highest critics’ approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Essentially, it’s in Trachtenberg we trust who, along with helming Predator: Badlands, also co-penned its story alongside Patrick Aison. While, yes, we come to a Predator movie for the action and the brutal sci-fi kills, we also need there to be a story woven well enough to hold our attention — which we’re fully expecting from the next installment.

Continuing to take the movies to untouched corners of creativity, Trachtenberg recently revealed that an animated project was also on the way. Titled Predator: Killer of Killers, the official synopsis reads:

“The anthology story follows three of the fiercest warriors in human history: a Viking raider guiding her young son on a bloody quest for revenge, a ninja in feudal Japan who turns against his Samurai brother in a brutal battle for succession, and a WWII pilot who takes to the sky to investigate an otherworldly threat to the Allied cause. But while all these warriors are killers in their own right, they are merely prey for their new opponent – the ultimate killer of killers.”
