What a time to be a murder-mystery fan. Poker Face Season 2 is just around the corner; Only Murders In The Building has Renée Zellweger coming in sizzling for Season 5; Rian Johnson’s Knives Out threequel Wake Up Dead Man is mere months away; and, this summer, Chris Columbus is getting ready to deliver his eagerly awaited, star studded adaptation of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club. Speaking of which, Netflix has just given us our first official look at Columbus’ senior sleuthing caper, which will see Pierce Brosnan, Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Celia Imrie play a band of retiree pals who spend their days solving chilly cases, only to suddenly find themselves with a real case on their hands — and at their door. Check out the first stills from the movie below;

Now, we don’t know about you, but it looks like Columbus — who’s working from a script by comedian Katy Brand and Killing Eve writer Suzanne Heathcote — has found the perfect cast to bring Osman’s OA-PIs to life: Pierce Brosnan is leaning into his silver fox era and donning denim as ex-union man Ron; Imrie’s got ex-nurse Joyce’s disarming gentleness down pat; Mirren was never going to be anything less than spot on to play ex-spy Elizabeth; and Sir Ben Kingsley’s ex-psychiatrist Ibrahim is just as we’d imagined him, tweed, bow-tie, and all. The added looks at The Rise Of Skywalker‘s Naomi Ackie and Harry Potter alum Henry Lloyd-Hughes are just the icing on the cake as Netflix tease the Club’s first real case at Cooper’s Chase retirement village. And, it’s worth remembering, that’s only the tip of The Thursday Murder Club‘s ensemble iceberg: David Tennant, Daniel Mays, Tom Ellis, Jonathan Pryce, and Richard E. Grant are all also among the persons of interest in Columbus’ movie.

A first look at Columbus’ Netflix-Amblin co-production isn’t all we got from the streamer yesterday, either. Along with the above first photos from The Thursday Murder Club, we also got an official premiere date for the movie, too. The Club’s first case will arrive on Netflix on 28 August — just four months from now. And based on everything we’ve seen so far, it looks like fans are in for a real, er, killer with this one.
