EXCLUSIVE: Lisa Azuelos is reteaming with star Sophie Marceau for LOL 2.0: Anne’s Golden Hour, the sequel to 2009 box-office hit LOL which starts production in Paris later this month.
Ginger & Fed has boarded the project and will begin international sales in Cannes.
The original LOL (Laughing Out Loud), about a mother’s rocky relationship with her teenage daughter, sold 3.7 million tickets in France and was adapted as a US remake starring Demi Moore and Miley Cyrus in 2012, also directed by Azuelos.
Marceau reprises her role for the sequel, playing the 55-year-old matriarch enjoying her newfound freedom and independence once her children have left home. But that balance is shaken up when her 23-year-old daughter, played by Azuelos’ own daughter Thais Alessandrin, moves home after a failed start-up and bad break-up.
Françoise Fabian and Vincent Elbaz co-star.
The film is produced by Curiosa Films and Love Is In The Air and will shoot in Paris from May 16 to mid-July. Apollo Films plans to release it in France in February 2026. Azuelos also directed Marceau in 2022 comedy I Love America for Prime Video.
Ginger & Fed’s Sabine Chemaly told Screen: “This film is a new chapter that offers Sophie Marceau a beautiful role, where she shines as a fearless, free-spirited woman who embraces ageing and life’s surprises with charm, courage and an unwavering smile – making her a true inspiration for her children, younger generations, and audiences alike.”
Ginger & Fed also heads to Cannes with a duo of novel films from well-known directors. Marie-Castille Mention-Schaar’s Into The Blue, based on the book I Decided To Live by para-athlete Philippe Croizon, is about a man severely disabled after a tragic accident who overcomes unimaginable obstacles to swim across the English channel.
Mention-Schaar produced via her Willow Films alongside Lionel Uzan at Federation Studio France. The cast also includes real-life paralympic athlete Pierre Rabine, Sandrine Bonnaire and Pierre Deladonchamps. Le Pacte will distribute the film in France.
Yann Samuell’s Santiago: The Camino Therapy is also based on a true story about a directionless teenager and tough, outspoken woman who end up walking 800 kilometres on the Camino de Santiago that turns out to be a life-changing journey for both of them. Alexandra Lamy and newcomer Julien Le Berre star in the film produced by Wonder Films and Page Films, which is currently shooting in France’s Auverge-Rhônes-Alpes region and in Spain’s Santiago de Compostela through the end of June.
Apollo will release the film in France next year.
