They scrapped in Hong Kong in Godzilla Vs Kong, became buds and joined forces with Mothra to save the Hollow Earth in Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. and now everybody’s favourite scaly boi and giant ape Titan duo are set to return in the freshly titled Godzilla X Kong: Supernova. Today, Warner Bros. took to social media — and YouTube — to reveal the official title and release date for director Grant Sputore’s upcoming MonsterVerse movie, confirming that the Zillakong threequel (as nobody is calling it) has now entered production with a nifty little teaser video. Titan sightings all over the globe. Severe emergency alerts. And the unmistakable roar of Godzilla himself. Sure, that ain’t a lot to go on in terms of parsing what the kaiju is about to go down in Godzilla X Kong: Supernova, but that astrophysical title and the colour scheme of its treatment sure doesn’t do anything to make us not believe a SpaceGodzilla MonsterVerse debut could be heading our way a couple of years from now. Speculation aside though, confirmation that the movie has officially entered production is great news, especially given the stacked cast franchise newcomer Sputore has assembled for his first foray into WB and Legendary’s world of monsters and men. Co-starring alongside Godzilla and Kong in this, the sixth MonsterVerse movie, will be *deep breath* Kaitlyn Dever, Dan Stevens (reprising the role of kaiju vet Trapper), Matthew Modine, Alycia Debnam-Carey, actual Sam Neill, and, in a cold little Sinners mini-reunion, Jack O’Connell and Delroy Lindo. Sheesh!
Written by David Callaham and Michael Lloyd Green, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova joins Season 2 of Apple TV+ show Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters on the MonsterVerse’s immediately upcoming slate as the sci-fi/creature-feature franchise confidently stomps into its second decade. As for when we can expect to see the fruits of Sputore and his collaborators’ labours, Supernova is set to explode onto our screens on 26 March, 2027. Who’s joining our SpaceGodzilla summoning circle? Or Gigan… we’ll take a Gigan if there’s a Giga going. We’re not fussy. Anyway…
