Disney’s Thunderbolts* held the top spot at the UK and Ireland box office, on a weekend where takings were affected by heated weather across much of the territory.

Dropping 53% in its second weekend, Thunderbolts* brought in £2.4m. The latest superhero venture now stands at £11.7m, behind the £13.2m of Captain America: Brave New World at the same release point.

Holding mighty in second place was Warner Bros’ Sinners which, despite dropping 56%, still brought in over £1m on its fourth weekend. Ryan Coogler’s vampire horror has a £13.1m cume, coming up on the £14.3m of 2023’s Creed III which Coogler produced.

In third place was A Minecraft Movie, also for Warner Bros, taking a steep 70% drop on its sixth session with £621,814 taking it to £54.9m. The film is now just £8,000 behind The Super Mario Bros Movie (also £54.9m) and will overtake it to become the highest-grossing video game adaptation ever in the territory today.

The only novel release to crack the top five was Altitude documentary Ocean With David Attenborough which debuted with £321,963 over the weekend from 580 sites at a £555 average, and has £573,551 in total including its Thursday opening.

In fifth place was Warner Bros’ The Accountant 2 which scored £227,269 on its third session for a £2.3m cume. 

Slipping outside the top five on its third week was Sony horror Until Dawn which added £190,015 to a £1.6m pot.

The Surfer rides in 

Lionsgate’s The Penguin Lessons is just shy of £3m after landing £101,952 in its fourth session.

Nicholas Cage stars in The Surfer which opened on £94,895 for Vertigo Releasing. Lorcan Finnegan’s psychological thriller has a total of £132,274 including previews.

Disney’s The Amateur is up to £4.3m after taking in £50,137 on its fifth week of play.

Also for Disney, Snow White added £46,179 on its eighth weekend for an £11.5m cume.

Universal’s The Wedding Banquet debuted on £36,628. The queer comedy stars Bowen Yang and Lily Gladstone.

Also for Universal, Six The Musical added £27,842 in its sixth session, bringing the event release up to £5.7m.

For Picturehouse, Paolo Sorrentino’s Parthenope took in another £20,000 on its second weekend for a £180,000 cume.

Venice documentary Riefenstahl opened on £17,755 for Dogwoof, bringing a running total of £21,972 with previews.

US comedy drama The Uninvited debuted with £17,202 for Foton Distribution. Walton Goggins, Pedro Pascal and Lois Smith are among the cast of Nadia Conners’ feature.

Curzon opened Karim Ainouz’s Motel Destino on £12,388 from 26 screens. The Portuguese erotic thriller played in Competition at Cannes last year.
