On Thursday night, amid the buzz of the 24th Tribeca Film Festival, nearly two dozen directors gathered at the Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown to fête their recent projects. Vanity Fair hosted the second annual Directors Dinner, celebrating excellence in entertainment, at CUT by Wolfgang Puck, the legendary California chef’s first New York City outpost. Over tartlets and glasses of Dom Pérignon Vintage 2015 – Jean-Michel Basquiat Special Edition, the guests chatted with VF acting editor in chief Daniel Kile and Condé Nast global head of film and television Helen Estabrook, before taking their seats under the striking art in the restaurant’s dining room.

Miley Cyrus, the night’s special guest, is premiering her pop opera, Something Beautiful, at the festival tonight. It’s a visual accompaniment to her album of the same name, which was released last week. Before sitting down for dinner, she explained the title’s significance.

“It’s a name that really embodies what everyone here was wanting and inspired to create,” Cyrus said. “What we’re putting out into the universe, it’s medicine for a sick culture. When we do it with pure intentions, a pure heart, and pure love, I really do believe that it is medicine.”
