EXCLUSIVE: Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF, August 14-20) is set to world premiere six brief films made as part of the inaugural NFTS Sean Connery Talent Lab.

The six shorts are Ryan Pollock’s Gowk, Josefa Celestin’s Nora Can’t Score, Catriona Macleod’s Lady Maclean, Alex Salam’s Twenty Twenty, Miranda Stern’s Static and Mairead Hamilton’s Checkout.

Launched in 2023, the Talent Lab gave 25 filmmakers the opportunity to create their own brief film with financial support and innovative guidance from BBC Film. Each team received a £25,000 production budget and the 12-month programme was led by The Inbetweeners producer Chris Young.

To ensure the course was accessible, 70% of the fees were underwritten by the Sean Connery Foundation. Further supporters of the course include The Dana and Albert Broccoli Foundation, FirstStage Studios, Blazing Griffin, DNA Films, Hartswood Films, Juniper Trust, LS Productions, the Rank Foundation, Synchronicity Films, Baillie Gifford and Progressive Broadcast Hire.

The six brief films will premiere as part of a special showcase attended by key industry figures.
