“Welcome to the Chatsubo, cowboy.” Apple TV has debuted a miniature promo to announce the Neuromancer series is now officially in production – filming on location in Tokyo. This has been a long time in the making! William Gibson’s seminal sci-fi masterpiece was published in 1984, and Hollywood has been trying to adapt it and many of his other novels since then. It’s finally happening. They’ve started shooting, and we’ll actually get to see his cyberpunk world brought to life. From Skydance Television (also behind the the Foundation series) the series is created by Graham Roland & J.D. Dillard (best known as director of the films Sleight, Sweetheart, Devotion). The sci-fi series stars Callum Turner as Case, a data-thief, Briana Middleton as Molly, a street-samurai, with Joseph Lee as Hideo, Mark Strong as Armitage, Clémence Poésy, Peter Sarsgaard, Emma Laird, plus Max Irons and Dane DeHaan. The video reveals a tiny piece of the set – a look at The Chatsubo, or also Chat, a bar on Ninsei in Chiba City, a place mainly serving expats where Case spends time. That’s all we get so far, but I’m hyped – I’ve got a very, very good feeling about this series.
Here’s the “now in production” announcement teaser for Apple TV+’s Neuromancer series, via YouTube:
“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing this iconic property to Apple TV+. Since we became friends nearly 10 years ago, we’ve looked for something to team up on, so this collaboration marks a dream come true. Neuromancer has inspired so much of the science fiction that’s come after it and we’re looking forward to bringing television audiences into Gibson’s definitive ‘cyberpunk‘ world.” –Creators Graham Roland & J.D. Dillard
William Gibson tweeted about the set: “I imagined the Chatsubo in 1984. 41 years later, I opened the door.”
“The Chatsubo was a bar for professional expatriates; you could drink there for a week and never hear two words in Japanese.” The cyberpunk series will follow a damaged, top-rung super-hacker named Case (Callum Turner) who’s thrust into a web of digital espionage & high stakes crime with his partner Molly (Briana Middleton), a razor-girl assassin with mirrored eyes aiming for a heist on a corporate dynasty with untold secrets. Neuromancer is a sci-fi series created by writers Graham Roland (writer on “Fringe”, Mile 22, “Jack Ryan”, “Dark Winds”) & J.D. Dillard (director of Sleight, Sweetheart, Devotion). Adapted from William Gibson’s seminal sci-fi novel also titled “Neuromancer” first published in 1984. Showrun by Graham Roland, with J.D. Dillard directing the pilot. Made by Skydance Television. Anonymous Content, and DreamCrew Entertainment. Executive produced by Graham Roland, J.D. Dillard, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, Jason Shrier, Zack Hayden, + William Gibson. Apple will debut the Neuromancer series streaming on Apple TV+ sometime in 2026. Stay tuned for more updates. 💾
