For months now, the Na’vi hive have been clamouring for an Avatar: Fire And Ash trailer. The third outing in James Cameron’s sprawling sci-fi saga is less than six months away now, bringing audiences back to Pandora three years after Avatar: The Way Of Water flooded the box office – this time set to offer even more emotional sturm und drang after the tragic finale to the second film. In low, it seems things are about to go up in flames – and likely a major catalyst in that is Oona Chaplin’s incoming villain (or, antagonist, at least) Varang, the leader of the Mangkwan ‘Ash’ Clan. She takes centre stage on Fire And Ash’s first poster.
Visually, this poster echoes those for the first Avatar and The Way Of Water, offering half a portrait of an crucial female figure in the story – for the 2009 film that was Zoe Saldaña’s Neytiri, and for the sequel it was Sigourney Weaver’s Na’vi teen Kiri. This time, it’s Varang’s turn, with flames in her eyes, piercings in her pointy ears, and and some kind of feathery adornment going on too. In low, the vibe is: don’t mess. Watch out, Jake Sully and co.
Even more excitingly, social posts revealing the poster also confirmed that the trailer is imminent: it’ll be showing exclusively ahead of The Fantastic Four: First Steps in cinemas this weekend, so if you’re desperate for that first look, be sure to hop in the Fantasticar to get a brief glimpse at your next Pandoran expedition. Bring on the fire and the flames.
