On August 15, an evil unlike any other will be unleashed — but why wait until then when you can get a taste of it right now? Today, Collider is thrilled to debut the exclusive Red Band trailer for the upcoming supernatural horror flick, Witchboard, which puts A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors helmer, Chuck Russell, back in the genre for a truly one-of-a-kind feature. Serving as a remake of Kevin Tenny’s 1986 film of the same name, the plot might look familiar, but comparing the two will certainly show the original’s age when it comes to clarity and effects. Starring Jamie Campbell Bower (Stranger Things), Madison Iseman (Annabelle Comes Home), and Aaron Dominguez (Sitting in Bars with Cake), the teaser reveals a terrifying thrill ride that you won’t want to miss.

Bower’s Alexander is conjuring up nothing but trouble in our exclusive novel look at Witchboard, as his character uses the titular object to summon an archaic evil hungry for souls. To be fair, Iseman’s Emily isn’t making matters any better after she gets her hands on the board and keeps it as close as possible on display and in full working function in her bedroom. Trippy, blood-filled sequences play out, revealing some of the movie’s gruesome and grotesque kill scenes, while plenty of half-naked bodies tease a sexually charged storyline. The jump scares and visual effects are truly a level above in the trailer, giving us just a taste of the horrors to come.

The Story at the Center of ‘Witchboard’

From the teaser, the plot of Witchboard appears to be that a bunch of newborn, good-looking people get their hands on a sort of Ouija board and unleash absolute hell. And, for the most part, this is true, but on the brighter and lighter side of things, the group at the center of the horror flick has taken over the lease on an elderly carriage house in the French Quarter of New Orleans and turned it into a café. Recently engaged couple, Emily (Iseman) and Christian (Dominguez), are looking forward to this fresh start and novel beginning when the former stumbles upon the sinister object. This is where Alexander Babtiste (Bower) enters the picture, thanks to his knowledge of the occult, which will lend a hand Emily, Christian, and their friends unlock the archaic secrets hidden within the Witchboard.

In addition to Iseman, Bower, and Dominguez, Witchboard also features the talents of a supporting ensemble that includes Melanie Jarnson (Mortal Kombat), Antonia Desplat (Shantaram), and Charlie Tahan (Ozark). Along with crafting what’s considered to be one of the best installments in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, Russell is also the visionary behind the 1988 remake of The Blob as well as other timeless classics like The Mask and The Scorpion King.
