EXCLUSIVE: Hyde Park International has come on to represent sales on Tribeca prize winner The Knife starring Nnamdi Asomugha and Melissa Leo and will commence talks at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival September 4-14) next month.

Former NFL American Football player Asomugha made his feature directorial debut on the film, which won best novel narrative director and best cinematography awards at the New York-based festival last spring, and opens today (August 15) through Relativity Media,

The story centres on a teenage family whose world is thrown into chaos by the unexpected arrival of a stranger in their home. As tension builds over one harrowing night, a determined detective races to uncover long-buried truths and the far-reaching consequences of past choices.

The cast includes Aja Naomi King, Manny Jacinto, and newcomers Amari Price and Aiden Price.

Asomugha co-wrote the screenplay with Mark Duplass, and produced The Knife through his company iAm21 Entertainment, in partnership with Duplass Brothers Productions.

Producers are Asomugha, Jonathan T. Baker, and Ami Werges. Duplass, Mel Eslyn, Jay Duplass, Shuli Harel, Rao Meka, Chijioke Asomugha, and Akbar Gbajabiamila served as executive producers.

Hyde Park International’s Carl Clifton described The Knife as “a totally edge-of-your-seat experience […] deeply unsettling and thought-provoking but also cleverly nuanced.”

Among the company’s current sales slate are the English-language remake of J-horror thriller Audition at Focus Features; Rubik’s in partnership with Fifth Season; and the feature adaptation of Richard Wright’s novel The Man Who Lived Underground.
