Media Figure Calls for Radical Changes to High School Curriculum
Media figure Tamer Amin has called for making radical changes to the high school curriculum, especially the literature section.
Tamer Amin’s Statement
Tamer Amin said during his presentation of the “Akhir Al-Nahar” program on Al-Nahar channel: “We have been talking about developing curricula since the eighties, and all that happened in 40 years is that you removed the padding and additions, but the curricula are 90% the same, and it is time to change them.”
The Problem with Literary Subjects
He added: “The literary section is the problem of problems. What is useful in the literary subjects that high school students study these days? What is the benefit of a high school student studying history and geography for 3 years? Why does he study philosophy and logic? What will he benefit from them when entering college or the job market?”
Tamer Amin
Tamer Amin continued: “A student can enter the Faculty of Arts, Philosophy Department, which is fine, but what does he graduate from? Do we have a job called philosopher? In the end, he tries to find a job as a philosophy teacher, as well as history departments.”

Solution: Limit Literary Subjects to Early Stages of Education
Tamer Amin demanded that the teaching of literary subjects be limited to the early stages of education, saying: “They taught these subjects in primary and preparatory school, and that is enough. In secondary school, the student is prepared for the job market.”

Conclusion
Tamer Amin’s call for radical changes to the high school curriculum has sparked a debate about the relevance of literary subjects in today’s education system. While some may argue that these subjects are essential for developing critical thinking and cultural awareness, others may see them as unnecessary and a waste of time.
