Despite all the traumas and horrors that play out during our exclusive first look at the official trailer for Wayward, we’ll be real with you — we’ll still follow Toni Collette anywhere. Today, Collider is excited to partner with Netflix, the home streamer behind the Academy Award-nominee’s latest project, to unveil the mysterious and haunting teaser for the latest production to come from comedian and the co-creator of Feel Good, Mae Martin. Set for a release on the platform in just one month, the thriller serves as the perfect kick-off to spooky season.
Collette’s Evelyn Wade is calling out to viewers in the Wayward trailer and inviting them to join the others who have found peace and serenity at Tall Pines Academy — a place for troubled youths to find hope. As Evelyn’s sanguine words ring out, the truth about the goings-on at the secluded camp tucked into the forested woods cuts in and reveals a much darker side than Evelyn and her team are letting on. Meanwhile, police officer Alex Dempsey (Martin) and his pregnant wife, Laura (Sarah Gadon), are returning to the tiny town for a fresh start. But the idyllic version of the town that the couple has in their minds will soon be shattered after sinister secrets surrounding Tall Pines Academy begin to float to the surface.
With Collette, Martin, and Gadon leading the pack, it’s clear that Wayward will be a heavily performance-driven series, but the supporting cast is just as impressive as its main players. Included in the stacked ensemble are the likes of Alyvia Alyn Lind (Chucky), Sydney Topliffe (Davey & Jonesie’s Locker), Patrick J. Adams (Suits), Tattiawna Jones (Murderbot), Joshua Close (Exorcism Of Emily Rose), Gage Munroe (Nobody 2), Brandon Jay McLaren (The Rookie), Byron Mann (The Big Short), and more.
What Else Is Toni Collette Up To?
As one of the most sought-after performers in the biz, Collette has no problem staying busy with work on the tiny and gigantic screen alike. Earlier this year, she joined Robert Pattinson, Mark Ruffalo, and filmmaker Bong Joon Ho in Mickey 17 and is currently challenging at work alongside Johnny Flynn, Helen Mirren, and others in Kate Winslet’s feature-length directorial debut, Goodbye June. Wayward marks the Hereditary star’s return to episodic projects following her 2023 turn in Prime Video’s sci-fi series, The Power.
