“Eclectic mash of Inter-gay-lactic mayhem.” Fandor has revealed the official trailer for animated comedy from Australia titled Lesbian Space Princess, which is indeed about a “Lesbian Space Princess” and her troubles in the galaxy. This delightfully LGBTQIA+ movie is actually an entirely indie production that has been playing at film festivals all year – including at the Berlin, Annecy, and Karlovy Vary Film Fests. It’s now set to hit theaters in October – which makes me ecstatic because this one deserves to be seen and enjoyed by as many people as possible! A space princess is thrust out of her sheltered life and into a galactic quest to save her bounty hunter ex-girlfriend from the Straight White Maliens. Ha ha. They’re hilarious. It’s a quirky, spunky, sex adult animated movie about two lesbians going on an adventure of discovery. A laugh-out-loud adventure through the far reaches of queer outer space – featuring the voices of Shabana Azeez, Mark Samual Bonanno, & Gemma Chua-Tran. I can recommend this! It’s not the best ever, but it’s good fun.

Daughter to the flamboyant lesbian Queens of Planet Clitopolis, introverted Princess Saira is devastated when her bounty-hunter girlfriend, Kiki, suddenly breaks up with her for being too needy. After Kiki is kidnapped by forgotten incels of the future, the Straight White Maliens, Saira must leave the comforts of gay space to deliver their ransom: her royal labrys (the most powerful weapon known to lesbian kind). Only problem is… she doesn’t have it! With just a 24-hour window to get her labrys and save Kiki, Princess Saira finds herself on an inter-gay-lactic journey of self-discovery that also includes encounters with a problematic spaceship and a new-found friendship with gay-pop runaway Willow. An animated comedy like no other, Lesbian Space Princess is a riotous, candy-coloured joy from start to finish: a locally-made animation by emerging creatives that embraces LGBTQIA+ and culturally diverse voices, on & off-screen.

Lesbian Space Princess is co-written & co-directed by South Australian filmmakers Emma Hough Hobbs & Leela Varghese, both making their feature directorial debut with this project after other tiny films. Produced by Tom Phillips. Made by We Made A Thing Studios. This initially premiered at the 2024 Adelaide Film Festival, and also played at the Berlin & Karlovy Vary Film Festivals this year.
