You’ll likely best know Harris Dickinson from his varied and acclaimed appearances in front of the camera – from his acting breakout in Eliza Hittman’s gritty coming-of-ager Beach Rats, to switching between Balenciaga and H&M in Ruben Östlund’s Triangle Of Sadness, to setting the screen alight with Nicole Kidman in this year’s Babygirl. But before he steps into the shoes of one of the Fab Four (he’ll be playing John Lennon in Sam Mendes’ series of The Beatles movies), Dickinson is stepping behind the camera – his feature directorial debut Urchin hits cinemas this autumn, and the first trailer is now online. Watch it below.
Urchin follows Mike (played by Fear The Walking Dead star Frank Dillane), who has been living on the streets of London for years when a theft leads to him being caught up in violence, sent to prison, and then attempting to turn his life around once he’s released. He gets sober, a room in a hostel, and a job in a hotel kitchen – though from what we see in the trailer, it looks like he might have some trouble holding onto his novel life, and breaking his cycle of self-destruction.
Also written by Dickinson, and produced by his company Devisio Pictures alongside business partner Archie Pearch, Urchin was a hit at Cannes Film Festival, and looks like a fascinating start to the actor’s wider filmmaking career. We’ll find out when it arrives in UK cinemas from 3 October.
