If you’ve been craving a good ol’ fashioned sword and sorcery fix, look no further, as today, Shout! Studios has unveiled the debut trailer for the upcoming film Deathstalker. For those scratching their heads and wondering why the name sounds so familiar, the answer is yes — the title will serve as a remake of the 1983 movie that came before it. This time around, stunt performer extraordinaire Daniel Bernhardt, who has flexed his muscles and technical abilities in such titles as The Matrix Reloaded and John Wick, will pick up the sword and step into the boots of the titular character in the latest project to come from filmmaker Steven Kostankski (Frankie Freako, Leprechaun Returns).

An archaic being is awakening from the sands of time in the Deathstalker trailer, as Bernhardt’s bicep-popping hero walks across the wasteland of humanity — a place littered with corpses and showered with the ash of erupted volcanoes. Then, the action kicks in, with Deathstalker wielding his weapon and slicing down his (well-dressed) enemies with every swing of his sword. With fantastical metal melodies playing in the background, over-the-top costumes cladding the bad guys, and plenty of neon green blood — not to mention a hefty helping of one-liners — the trailer for Deathstalker is delightfully camp in all the best ways.

Joining Bernhardt on his quest as Deathstalker is a lineup of talent that also includes Patton Oswalt (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty) in an undisclosed role, Nina Bergman (Doom: Annihilation) as Grendel, Christine Orjalo (Astrid and Lilly Save the World) as Brisbayne, Paul Lazenby (Deadpool 2) as Jotak, Laurie Field (The Whipping Boy) as Doodad, and Jon Ambrose (The Umbrella Academy) as Pig-Face.

Where You’ve Seen Daniel Bernhardt’s Work Before

In addition to his stunt performances in movies like John Wick, The Matrix Reloaded, Escape Plan: The Extractors, and numerous titles from the Bloodsport franchise, Bernhardt has also poured his blood, sweat, and tears into numerous feature-length productions as a fight choreographer. In recent years, he took Bob Odenkirk under his wing to train him into a mean, lean fighting machine for his work in the breakaway hit, Nobody, and also showcased his fighting abilities in Creed II.

You can check out the trailer for the fresh and improved take on the cult classic of yesteryear in the above trailer for Deathstalker. Then, on October 10, head to your local cinema to see all of Bernhardt’s strenuous work pay off.
