Aziz El Shafei Reveals Sherine Abdel Wahab’s Fine for Breaching Contract

Composers’ Conflict: Aziz El Shafei Speaks Out on Sherine Abdel Wahab’s Legal Issues

Poet and composer Aziz El Shafei revealed that singer Sherine Abdel Wahab is liable to pay a fine of 20 million pounds, due to her breach of her contract with Rotana and the release of two new songs, “Elli Yeqabel Habibi” and “Betmany Ansak.”

Aziz El Shafei said in a video he posted on his official YouTube channel: “Yesterday, I released two songs I composed for Sherine Abdel Wahab, and I am very happy that these two songs in particular were released. The problem for me is that I wish they would have been released in a better way than this, and for people to see and listen to them on YouTube and all platforms, and we see the success in numbers, views, and interaction.”

He added: “We saw this yesterday on Twitter, and we saw it a while ago on YouTube before Rotana closed the songs, and I know why Sherine did this. Sherine promised her fans that she would release the songs, and the hardest thing is when an artist wants to go out, sing, and work, and is prevented because of papers, signatures, points of view, or legal positions.”

Aziz El Shafei continued: “I hear respectful words from Rotana’s lawyer, saying for example that Sherine paid 10 million or 8 million pounds not because of the penalty clause, but because of breach of contract, and that for every breach of contract she will pay 10 million pounds, meaning that she should pay 20 million pounds for the two songs from yesterday, and the contract with Rotana is ongoing and she is required to present songs and this is a very difficult situation.”

He continued: “On the other hand, Sherine’s lawyer, are your papers valid for releasing songs? And if they are valid, how did Rotana stop them? Does Rotana have the right or not? Why are these legal matters not ended clearly? It is not reasonable for two senior lawyers to say things that contradict each other.”

Aziz El Shafei explained that he was upset with the way the two songs were released, saying: “The rush to release the songs bothered me, but Sherine was forced to do it and I understand her position and support her no matter what happens. The rush made the song ‘I Wish I Forget You’ come out before the paperwork and financial matters were finalized.”

Aziz El Shafei concluded his message by saying: “I hope Sherine is able to overcome this crisis. I am happy with her enthusiasm and courage. I appreciate that she may have made a mistake or that there was something wrong with the contract or that she violated someone’s rights, but I hope that there is someone great in music or in the law who will solve this problem, give people their rights, and let Sherine work and entertain us and get out of her personal problems. Congratulations to Sherine, and congratulations to Sherine’s fans and all the people. God willing, we will hear the songs and the legal problems will be solved.”

On Tuesday evening, Sherine released two new songs on her official Twitter account: “I Wish I Could Forget You,” with lyrics and music by Aziz El Shafei and distribution by Toma, and “Whoever Meets My Love,” with music by Aziz El Shafei, lyrics by Tamer Hussein, and distribution by Toma.
