Jack Black debuted yet another blockbuster earlier this year with A Minecraft Movie, but near the end of 2025 he’s coming back with a remake that just got an invigorating novel look. Columbia Pictures has released the first trailer for Anaconda, the upcoming remake of Jennifer Lopez’s 1997 film of the same name that’s currently streaming on Netflix. Black stars alongside Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Steve Zahn (Silo), and Daniela Melchior (The Suicide Squad) in the film, which is coming to theaters on Christmas Day later this year. It will open alongside Timothée Chalamet’s Marty Supreme. Watch the trailer below:

Tom Gormican wrote and directed the Anaconda remake with aid from Kevin Etten on the script. Hans Bauser, Jim Cash, and Jack Epps Jr. wrote the script for the 1997 film with Luis Llosa directing. The original Anaconda follows a National Geographic documentary filming crew who is taken hostage and forced into a threatening journey to capture the world’s largest snake. The novel film puts a different spin on the story. It follows a group of friends who head into the jungle to remake their favorite movie, only to encounter unexpected danger in the jungle — we’re expecting a snake.

It’s been a busy year for Rudd, who starred in both Friendship (Tim Robinson) and Death of a Unicorn (Jenna Ortega). He’s also expected back as Ben Glenroy in the novel season of Only Murders in the Building. A Minecraft Movie has been Black’s only endeavor this year, but he’ll be busy in 2026 with the releases of Jumanji 3 and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Zahn will next be seen starring opposite Glen Powell in Chad Powers, the Hulu football series coming on September 30.

Did People Like The Original ‘Anaconda’?

It’s sheltered to say the original Anaconda movie was by no means a critical or audience darling. The film currently sits at scores of 41% from critics and 26% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, which may lead fans to wonder why it’s being remade. Despite being poorly received by both fans and reviewers alike, Anaconda (1997) grossed $136 million at the box office against a $45 million budget. Still, the market is much different now than it was in 1997. It would be astounding to see the remake come close to this level of success.
