Lucasfilm officially pulled back the curtain on The Mandalorian & Grogu for all to see, and the first trailer confirms what fans have been waiting for: Din Djarin and Grogu are headed to the substantial screen. The recent Star Wars movie, directed and written by Jon Favreau, will hit theaters on May 22, 2026, marking the theatrical debut of everyone’s favorite beskar-wearing bounty hunter and his minuscule green apprentice. Pedro Pascal is back as Din Djarin — sometimes under the helmet, sometimes not, but always via voice — while Brendan Wayne handles the in-suit close-up work and Lateef Crowder returns for the stunt sequences. And of course, Grogu plays himself.

The trailer itself features very little dialogue, and has a very senior school caper feel to it, with that iconic Mandalorian theme music in the background. The key set piece involves a takedown of an AT-AT which should play great on IMAX.

Joining the ensemble this time are The Bear star Jeremy Allen White as Jabba the Hutt’s son and sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver. While we see some of Weaver’s character, proper details are being kept mostly under wraps, she did tease that she’ll be sending Din on a recent quest into the Outer Rim, while speaking at Star Wars Celebration earlier thie year.

“I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie. And he’s a little badass too,” Weaver revealed. “It’s going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series.”

What’s Next for Grogu?

Collider’s Steve Weintraub caught up with Favreau after the panel to ask how much Grogu has matured since we last saw him at the end of The Mandalorian Season 3. Favreau confirmed fans will notice real progression:

“You want to have a progression so it’s not just the same situation over and over again. So, on one front, the relationship between Mando and Grogu has evolved, as now he’s an apprentice, and now he’s a family member and adopted by him. As they go off, as it said in the end of the last season, it’s his job to train him. They have to go out on adventures, and they have to work together. There’s an apprenticeship that’s happening between the two of them, but also Grogu is becoming more comfortable, as remember, he was trained by none other than Luke Skywalker, and the path of the Force is a lifelong path. So, we want to have evolution. As the story gets bigger, the screen gets bigger, we want to have Grogu grow into that.”

The Mandalorian & Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22, 2026. All three seasons of The Mandalorian are streaming now on Disney+.
