Something wicked this way comes. The clock is ticking down on the arrival of Wicked: For Good, with less than two months standing in our way before the witches are back in action on November 21. With so much hype following the Jon M. Chu-helmed movie, the good folks over at Universal Pictures have been kind enough to drop another trailer, foreshadowing the events that will round out the tale and leave audiences changed… for good. With Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande returning to the roles that took audiences (and press junkets) by storm last year, the teaser acts as the perfect precursor for what’s bound to be a goosebump-inducing final chapter in the adaptation based on the Tony Award-winning musical.
There are plenty of monumental moments showcased in the Wicked: For Good final trailer, as we see the evolution of Glinda into Glinda the Good and the creation of her bubble and wand. On the heavier side of things, Elphaba and Glinda trade barbs at a site that will be familiar to any The Wizard of Oz fan where it appears that the tornado that dropped Dorothy has finally arrived. Speaking of Dorothy — even though Chu said she would be more of a background fixture in the film, we see her first meeting with the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum) alongside her companions and witness Boq’s (Ethan Slater) transformation into the Tin Man.
When we last left off with Erivo’s Elphaba and Grande’s Glinda, each woman was forced to choose her own path — and those paths didn’t coincide with one another. Now seen as the enemy of Oz, Elphaba is on the defense, continuing her push for fair treatment for all of Oz’s citizens, while Glinda is upholding her role as a talking head for the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh). Meanwhile, she’s staying fully distracted and away from the politics of it all thanks to her upcoming nuptials to Prince Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey), who will face some tough decisions in the second part.
‘Wicked: For Good’ Will Force All of Its Characters to Face Their Choices
As for the more secondary characters, Wicked: For Good will dig more into the blossoming yet forced relationship between Nessarose (Marissa Bode) and Boq (Slater), with the latter recently telling Collider,
“I think that for every character, the second movie is a moment of dealing with the consequences of your actions. In a way that deepens all the storylines, and it’s really exciting. And for Boq in particular, in the first movie, there’s a lot of kindness and gentleness that actually is maybe a little toxic and puts him in a position he doesn’t want to be in. And so I’m really excited about me and Marissa, Boq and Nessa, and we get to sort of spend more time with the two of them and see how their relationship evolves.”
