TIFF to expand Primetime TV section for 2026 market launch edition

Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will expand its TIFF Primetime series section from 10 shows to approximately 14 for the 2026 edition (September 10-20, 2026).

The move represents a roughly 40% raise to the section that launched in 2015. It will coincide with the launch of TIFF: The Market (September 10-16, 2026), TIFF’s official content market designed to champion film, television, up-to-date media, and Canadian creators. 

The news was reported earlier on Wednesday at the Cannes television market Mipcom, and confirmed to Screen by Judy Lung, TIFF’s VP of strategy, communications and stakeholder relations.

TIFF executives previously told Screen that the content market will be housed in a primary venue at Metro Toronto Convention Centre. They are projecting 6,000 delegates in the first year and aim to double attendance by 2030. 

This year’s TIFF Primetime selection included Zach Baylin and Kate Susman’s Netflix crime drama Black Rabbit starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman as brothers, and Wayward, Netflix’s original Canadian thriller about a teen therapeutic facility from Mae Martin and Ryan Scott starring Martin, Sarah Gadon, and Toni Collette.
