Mubi has acquired Markus Schleinzer’s Rose for North America, UK-Ireland, Italy, Turkey, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand.

The distributor will announce release plans for the film in the near future, having acquired the title from sales agent The Match Factory, which Mubi owns.

Rose debuted in Competition at last month’s Berlin International Film Festival, with Sandra Huller winning the best leading performance prize.

Set in 17th-century Germany amid the Thirty Years’ War, Huller plays a woman disguised as a man, trying to be a good citizen at any cost.

The film is an Austria-Germany co-production from Schubert, Row Pictures and Walker + Worm Film, produced by Johannes Schubert, Philipp Worm, Tobias Walker and Karsten Stoter. It is Austrian director Schleinzer’s third feature, after 2011 debut Michael and 2018’s Angelo.
