EXCLUSIVE: Charades will kick off sales in Cannes for French director Emmanuel Marre’s A Man Of His Time (Notre Salut), a 1940s-set drama starring Swann Arlaud (Anatomy Of A Fall) that was selected to premiere in the festival’s 2026 Competition.  

Arlaud plays Henri Marre, inspired by the filmmaker’s own real-life great-grandfather, who arrives in Vichy with his political manuscript, which he intends to publish to make a name for himself in the novel regime and assist save France – and himself – from collapse. Belgian actress Sandrine Blancke also stars.

The French-language film is Marre’s second feature after Zero Fucks Given, which he co-directed with Julie Lecoustre and which premiered in Cannes’ Critics’ Week in 2021, winning the Gan Foundation Award that offers support for the local distribution of first and second features.

A Man Of His Time is produced by France’s Kidam and Belgium’s Michigan Films. Co-producers are Anatomy Of A Fall duo Les Films Pelléas and Les Films de Pierre alongside Unité, France 2, Condor, The Ink Connection, RTBF (Télévision belge), Be tv & Orange, and Proximus.

Condor Distribution will release the film in France and Cinéart is handling distribution in Belgium.
