Actor Helen Mirren, Aardman Animation co-founders Peter Lord and David Sproxton, and former Glasgow Film CEO Allison Gardner are among UK film industry names to be recognised in this year’s King’s Birthday Honours.
Mirren, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in 2006’s The Queen, has been made a Companion of Honour for services to drama. The maximum number of people who can hold the title at any one time is 65. Mirren was previously made a Dame in 2003.
Lord and Sproxton, who co-founded the Academy Award-winning animation studio behind Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep, were both knighted for their services to the imaginative industries and to charity.
Gardener, who retired last year as chief executive of Glasgow Film and director of Glasgow Film Festival after more than 30 years, received a CBE for services to film and cinema in Scotland.
Film composer Patrick Doyle, whose credits include Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Murder on the Orient Express and Brave, was awarded a CBE for services to film.
OBE’s were awarded to actor and director Dexter Fletcher, whose directing credits include Rocketman and Sunshine on Leith; VFX executive and Double Negative co-founder Paul J. Franklin who has won visual effects Oscars for Interstellar and Inception; and Amazon UK country manager John Boumphrey.
