Webheads of the world unite — the latest Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer just dropped! Yes, as tickets go on sale today for Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as everybody’s favourite warm neighbourhood Spider-Man, a totally unexpected, brand spanking up-to-date teaser — unseen by human eyes before this very day! — for Destin Daniel Cretton’s webslinging fourquel has arrived. And while the world may have forgotten Peter Parker after the events of No Way Home, he — and his wall-crawling alter ego — most certainly hasn’t forgotten them. Check out the up-to-date trailer below;
Holy heck — that’s a whole lotta trailer right there, folks! We’ve got Spidey vs Scorpion. We’ve got Hulk vs Spidey. We’ve got Spidey vs The Hand. And, in many ways, we’ve got Spidey vs Spidey too, as our pal Peter Parker finds himself going through ‘Spider-Puberty’ and changing in ways that he can’t quite comprehend — organic webs, blacked-out spider eyes, and all. All that, and that’s barely even the tip of the webbed-up iceberg. Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned heartbreakingly still don’t remember Pete, despite Spidey coming to the former’s rescue and the latter having set up a whole-ass Spider Tracker to keep tabs on Queens’ arachnoid Avenger. Our hero is still trying to grieve his beloved Aunt May, who offers some poignant voice-over advice in this latest trailer. Sadie Sink is still slinking about in a hoodie giving off sedate Jean Grey vibes as an concealed force wreaks havoc upon New York. And now, to top it all off, there’s another mysterious hooded figure — this one dressed all in black — for Spider-Man to contend with. No wonder he’s given Frank Castle a bell for back-up!
The cryptic official synopsis for Brand New Day — whose impressive line-up includes Spider-movie newcomers Jon Bernthal, Liza Colón-Zayas, Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III, and Mark Ruffalo — reads; “It’s a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves – a powerful villain no one can even see.”
Will anyone ever remember Peter Parker? What is the deal with all these hooded villains? And just why exactly does Spider-Man shoot organic webs now? Perhaps it really is Mephisto’s doing this time, or Morlun, or long-rumoured/theorised secret big-bad The Jackal — who knows? Any which way you cut it, it looks like Cretton and co are about to deliver a metric ton of badass blockbuster action and comic-book geek satisfying squee moments on our way to finding out. Catch us in the best seats with the Spidey mask popcorn bucket when Spider-Man: Brand New Day thwips its way into cinemas on 29 July!
