Walton Goggins is no stranger to playing a baddie or two. From Justified‘s loquacious white supremacist Boyd Crowder to The Shield‘s corrupt detective Shane Vendrell to Django Unchained‘s callous Candyland overseer Billy Crash, the man has a knack for channelling the darker side of (in)humanity. Hell, much as we love him, even his Fallout bounty hunter The Ghoul has more than a spot of morally dubious red on his ledger. Now, per Deadline‘s reporting, Goggins is getting ready to break bad once again in Joseph Kosinski’s upcoming Miami Vice ’85, a modern big-screen retooling of the classic 80s cop show.

According to Deadline‘s sources, F1 director Kosinski has been eyeing Goggins for a villainous part in his Austin Butler and Michael B. Jordan led movie, due to enter production in New York and Miami this November, for some time. Thankfully, despite early concerns that Goggins’ work on the upcoming Fallout Season 3 might’ve rendered him incapable of boarding the project, things have worked out and the three-time Emmy-nominated actor is now clear to play assassin henchman to John Leguizamo’s cartel king lead villain in the film. Goggins joins an increasingly stacked cast that elsewhere includes Whitney Peak, Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, and Danny Ramirez.

Penned by Dan Gilroy (brother of Tony, and writer-director of Nightcrawler), Joseph Kosinski’s Miami Vice ’85 — which is set to take a deep dive into the glamour and corruption of Miami in the decade the original series was born — is being shot for IMAX and currently racing towards a planned May 19, 2028 release. Fans of synthed-out, super-stylised 80s buddy cop hijinks, the time has come to iron your white slacks, whack out your shades, and dust off your tape deck — Vice City awaits!
