UK financier and producer John Gore Studios has boarded Peter Hoar’s A Waiter In Paris, starring Leo Woodall and Clémence Poésy, as filming gets underway in the French capital.

John Gore Studios is now producing alongside former UK film critic Jason Solomons of Movie Love Productions and Phin Glynn. It is also co-financing the project with BBC Film.

Rising French talents Julien De Saint Jean, Manon Bresch, Théo Costa-Marini, Victor Poirier, Kinsley Camachee and Andrea Dolente have joined the cast, along with Call My Agent! star Thibault De Montalembert.

Cornerstone Films is repping international sales and co-reps the US with WME Independent.

Development was backed by BBC Film with the Curzon CM Development Fund (CCM), a partnership between local distributors Curzon, Cineart and Madman. Curzon will release in the UK and Ireland, Cineart in Benelux and Madman in Australia.

Francis Hopkinson and Helen Flint executive produce on behalf of John Gore Studios, with BBC Film’s Eva Yates, Mark Gooder and Alison Thompson for Cornerstone Films, and Woodall.

Paris-and Los Angeles-based FullDawa Films is the local production services partner; Gaël Cabouat, Boris Mendza and David Atrakchi have executive producer credits.

The film is written by Ben Hopkins and is based on Edward Chisholm’s best-selling memoir of the same name about a directionless teenage Englishman who arrives in Paris, determined to find belonging among the sharp-suited brotherhood of Parisian waiters. But as challenging work, heady nights and love affairs escalate, the up-to-date life he has chased begins to unravel.

It marks Hoar’s feature directorial debut, having directed episodes of The Last Of Us and It’s A Sin.

“Having the support of John Gore Studios and a hugely encouraging executive team has given us the freedom to be bold, authentic and sexy, and to aim for the very top, inspired by the screen history of this most cinematic of cities. Je suis ravi,” said Solomons.

“A Waiter In Paris is exactly the kind of ambitious storytelling we champion at John Gore Studios,” added Gore, producer and executive chairman of John Gore Studios. “It combines a compelling story with an exceptional cast and creative team, led by Peter Hoar, the master of emotionally powerful and visually distinctive storytelling.”
