Almost three years since Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Tom Holland’s wall crawler team up with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire for all sorts of multiversal madness, we’re finally getting an update on our Friendly Neighbourhood’s next MCU outing. According to THR‘s reporting, Destin Daniel Cretton — whose Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings remains a highlight of Marvel Studios’ post-Endgame output — is in talks to direct Spider-Man 4.

Cretton’s Busy Schedule

Having vacated the directorial hotseat on Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (now Avengers: Doomsday) last year amid all the legal and creative troubles facing that project, Cretton has most recently been hard at work on upcoming Marvel Disney+ series Wonder Man with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. That the filmmaker has been courted to helm Marvel and Sony’s web-slinging fourquel then represents a vote of confidence in Wonder Man from Kevin Feige and co, who’ve already snapped up Spidey scriptwriting alum Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers to scribe the franchise’s fourth instalment.
