“Now it’s sublime.” Music Box Films has unveiled the official US trailer for the acclaimed film Daaaaaali! from wacky filmmaker Quentin Dupieux (who also premiered his latest film The Second Act in Cannes earlier this year). Quite simple, this brilliantly hilarious comedy is a wild and weird take on the iconic artist Salvador Dalí. It premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival last year to uproarious laughter – it was one of my favorite films of the festival. Dupieux’s film is sort of about a young journalist who attempts to meet with the iconic surrealist artist Salvador Dalí on several occasions for a documentary. But it never seems to work out. To add to the confusion, multiple actors portray Dali during different scenes in the film. Starring Anaïs Demoustier, Romain Duris, Gilles Lellouche, Edouard Baer, Pio Marmaï, Didier Flamand, and Jonathan Cohen. 🎨 “As Dalí himself said, his personality was probably his greatest masterpiece. My film modestly tells that story,” Dupieux explains. I am a HUGE fan of this film, glad it’s out soon. It’s so hilarious and funky and peculiar. Dupieux’s most eccentric characterization that goes further than ever before. Enjoy.

A young French journalist meets Salvador Dalí repeatedly for a documentary film project which never gets to start shooting… Director’s Statement: “To write and direct this tribute, I connected with Salvador Dalí’s cosmic consciousness and let myself be guided, eyes closed. First, the Master ordered me to summon several brilliant actors to play his character (too complex for just one man); then together we visited Buñuel to steal a few images and ideas; then he led me by force into the depths of his morbid anguish and into his dreams to guide me; and finally I just about regained control of my film, to simply make it a declaration of love to this man.” Daaaaaali! is written and directed by acclaimed French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux, director of many films including Nonfilm, Steak, Rubber, Wrong, Wrong Cops, Reality, Keep an Eye Out, Deerskin, Mandibles, Incredible But True, Smoking Causes Coughing, and Yannick.
