Azmy graduated from the acting department of the Higher Institute of Theatrical Arts in 2006, and participated in many works, through which he won awards; including Best Supporting Actor for the movie “Closed Doors” from the National Cinema Festival, Best Supporting Actor from the Media Festival for the series “Al Jamaa”, and Best Actor from the Alexandria Film Festival “Stolen Kisses”. He also won a special award from the jury for the movie “The Promise”, according to his post.
Azmy pointed out in his post that during the past three years he participated in Arab works; most notably his participation with the artist Yehia El-Fakharany in the play “King Lear”, the series “Harb El-Gabali”, with the Lebanese producer Sadek El-Sabah, and the film “El-Minbar” in the United Arab Emirates.

Azmy made what seemed like a cry for help that he had not been offered any work by the United Company, and wrote: “I hope that my friends and fellow artists who I have worked with throughout my life will help me contact the United Company… Life has no taste without work. My son is growing up in front of me, and I do not know how I will help him face the difficulties of life. I am deprived of self-realization in my country and I do not have another profession, and I fear death from grief and sadness.”
About a day after Azmy's appeal, the Egyptian artist announced on his page, Friday, that he had signed an artistic work for the upcoming month of Ramadan with the United Company, and Azmy thanked those who supported him from professors, colleagues, and the public.

Azmy received support from his colleagues, most notably artist Salah Abdallah, who wrote in a tweet on the “X” website: “I strongly support my forgotten, clever colleagues in announcing their need for work… Why?! Because I do not consider this a complaint, but rather an effort to remind producers, directors, and big stars of them… and striving for a living is required and desirable.”

Azmy had gone through a difficult period after his brother died in a robbery and was stabbed to death. This incident led Azmy to become addicted. In 2013, Azmy was arrested on charges of possessing narcotics, and was released. In 2015, Azmy was sentenced to 6 months in prison for drug use, and his mother died of grief over him, according to a previous television interview.
He said in previous television statements: “My mother passed away three months after I left prison,” and Azmy continued: “I have never been upset with my friends for distancing themselves from me after I went to prison. Some of them did not communicate with me.”
