Colin Firth is on an emotional and passionate quest for justice in the latest trailer for Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, the upcoming confined drama series from Peacock and Sky. Based on a true story, Lockerbie: A Search for Truth recounts the tragedy of Pan Am Flight 103, which exploded over the peaceful, southern town of Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988., after terrorist Abdelbaset Al-Megrahi arranged for the detonation of a bomb on an international flight. The disaster claimed the lives of 259 passengers and crew, as well as 11 residents on the ground.
Among the victims was the daughter of Dr. Jim Swire (played by Firth), who ended up whether by choice or circumstances, becoming the spokesperson for the families who demanded answers. Determined to uncover the truth, Jim embarks on a tireless journey that spans continents and political divides, pushing him to the brink emotionally and personally. The series will dive into the events of the tragedy and its painful aftermath as Swire risks it all to bring justice for his family, as his journey spans years, continents and even brings him face to face with the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, in one of the most stunning stories in state-of-the-art Scottish history.
Who Else Appears in ‘Lockerbie: A Search For Truth’?
Firth is joined in the cast by Catherine McCormack (Slow Horses, Temple), playing Swire’s wife, Jane, who suffered the tragedy alongside him. The cast also features the likes of Rosanna Adams, Jemma Carlton, Harry Redding, Sam Troughton, Mark Bonner, Ardalan Esmaili, and Selwa Jghalef. Behind the scenes, the show is helmed by Otto Bathurst (Peaky Blinders) and written by David Harrower (Blackbird), both of whom also serve as executive producers. Executive producers Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant explained in a statement why telling the story was so significant:
“The bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 was one of the most devastating acts of terrorism, taking the lives of 270 innocent people. It’s been a privilege to follow Jim Swire’s remarkable journey, and Colin Firth delivers a captivating performance as he brings Jim’s life’s work to the screen.”
Lockerbie: A Search for Truth will drop all five episodes on Peacock in the United States, and Sky in the United Kingdom, on January 2, 2025. You can view the latest trailer for the series above, and be sure to stay tuned to Collider for more updates on your favorite movies and shows.
