EXCLUSIVE: On the eve of the US theatrical release of SXSW hit Good Boy through Independent Film Company and Shudder, Altitude announced it has sold out international territories on the supernatural thriller told through the eyes of a dog.
Ben Leonberg’s feature debut stars his own pet, Indy, as a faithful friend who leaves the city with his owner Todd when they relocate to a creepy, vacant family home in the country.
Before long Indy senses hidden presences, follows phantom tracks, receives chilling warnings from a ghostly dog, and is haunted by glimpses of the previous resident’s gruesome demise. When a obscure influence grips Todd, Indy must act.
Altitude screened Good Boy in the Cannes market and has closed deals in Germany (DCM), Italy (Maestro), France (VOD Factory), Spain (Filmin), Japan (AT Entertainment), South Korea (Challan), Latin America (CVT), Portugal (Cinemundo), Indonesia (PT Falcon), Benelux (18k Film), and Middle East (Phars).
Rights have also gone in Scandinavia (Angel), Philippines (Raffaela), Poland (Monolith), Romania (Bad Unicorn), Singapore (Shaw), Taiwan (Hooray), Thailand (Fear Folk), Turkey (Filmarti), Vietnam (Skyline). China (JL Films), Greece (Cinobo), Hungary (ADS), India (MVP), Baltics and Ukraine (Ad Astra), Bulgaria (Pro Films), and airlines (Aardwolf).
Good Boy will open theatrically in France, Spain and Germany later this month after the US release on Friday (October 3) on more than 1,500 screens. The Independent Film Company acquired all English-speaking territories including UK and Australia after the premiere in SXSW last March, when it earned the Howl of Fame award for best canine performance.
The genre title has played multiple international festivals including Overlook, Sitges, Bucheon, Fantasia, Octopus Film Festival in Poland, Fantasy FilmFest in Germany and Strasbourg European Fantastic Film Festival in France.
Leonberg and Alex Cannon co-wrote the screenplay, and Leonberg and Kari Fischer served as producers. The film also stars Shane Jensen, Arielle Friedman, and horror veterans Larry Fessenden and Stuart Rudin.
