Ana de Armas and Tom Cruise have made multiple appearances together since February, most recently at David Beckham‘s birthday just a few weeks ago—which has led many in the media to assure that the two actors are involved in a relationship. As it turns out, they are: a professional relationship. One of those meetings in London also involved a third figure: the director Doug Liman, who had already worked with Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow (2014) and American Made (2017). While doing promotion for her upcoming action movie Ballerina, the Cuban actress confirmed that she and Cruise are working together on multiple projects, involving both Liman and another Cruise favorite, Christopher McQuarrie.
While appearing on Good Morning America Thursday, de Armas confirmed that she has several irons on the fire at the moment: with Liman (whose filmography also includes everything from The Bourne Identity to the recent remake of Road House), McQuarrie (Cruise’s most constant director in recent years, responsible for the last four installments of Mission Impossible and screenwriter on Edge of Tomorrow), “and of course, Tom. And I’m so excited,” said De Armas.
Though we don’t yet know more details about the projects the two actors have cooking, there are a few clues. In December 2024, Liman revealed that he was in pre-production on a supernatural thriller that would also star Cruise. “I have never done one, and neither has Tom,” he the director said—though that may depend on how we classify War of the Worlds. This project has been bouncing between studios for almost 10 years, starting at MGM before landing at Warner Bros. The script, by Max Landis (World War Z), is about an astronaut who has an underwater encounter with something terrifying. We’ll likely know more about what de Armas and Cruise have in the orks when the promotional tours for Ballerina (June 6) and Mission Impossible (May 23) are over.
