France’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival has shifted the dates for its next edition back by two weeks to June 21-27, 2026.

The move follows an announcement by French President Emmanuel Macron that the Haute-Savoie region, in which Annecy is situated, will host a G7 meeting at the same time as the festival’s customary dates in early June.

“This major international event will exceptionally mobilize local infrastructure starting in early June, with significant impacts on transportation, accommodation, and security conditions,” the festival’s organizing body CITIA said in a statement.

“To ensure a welcoming and organized environment that meets the demands of our event, we have had to make the exceptional decision to postpone the dates,” it continued.

The event’s MIFA market will run from June 23 to 26.

With its picturesque setting and focus on both studio and independent animation across all formats, Annecy is regarded as the biggest animation festival in the world.

The festival reported that a record 18,200 badge holders from 118 countries attended its 2025 edition in June.

Highlights this year included honorary awards for Matt Groening as well as previews of Eyes Of Wakanda, Bad Guys 2 and Goat as well as premieres for Andy Serkis’s Animal Farm and Genndy Tartakovsky’s adult animated comedy Fixed.
