Anthony Mackie’s year in 2025 so far has been all about Marvel — the star led his first solo movie in Captain America: Brave New World, and he’s currently filming Avengers: Doomsday, the next targeted MCU event film coming next year. However, Mackie is also the star of an explosive TV show that just got an stimulating up-to-date look. Peacock has unveiled the first official trailer for Twisted Metal Season 2, which will premiere its first three episodes on July 31, followed by one episode weekly until August 28. The first season of Twisted Metal, which also stars Brooklyn Nine-Nine veteran Stephanie Beatriz, was a hit among fans and critics. It earned a 67% score on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, and a robust 93% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.

Following the revelations of Season 1, Twisted Metal Season 2 will follow John Doe (Mackie) and Quiet (Beatriz) in the deadly Twisted Metal tournament, hosted by the perilous and unpredictable Calypso (Anthony Carrigan). The duo will have to survive an onslaught of foes, including some up-to-date and familiar faces, like the murderous clown Sweet Tooth, who is physically portrayed by former wrestling star Samoa Joe and voiced by Will Arnett. Things get complicated for John during the tournament when he runs into his estranged sister, Dollface (Tania Okoye), who has motivations unknown to him. The first trailer shows off the signature Twisted Metal high-octane action that made the show such a hit with fans upon its premiere in 2023. Twisted Metal Season 1 was released via the binge model, so its change to a weekly release shows Peacock has faith in the series to perform well over a longer stretch.

Peacock has yet to announce if it will move forward with a third season of Twisted Metal. Considering the show is also being released on the weekly model, it will likely be some time before this decision is made. Executives will have to look into how the show performs over the month it’s on the air, and also weigh the cost-profit ratio to decide if a third season is worth it. If Season 2 is well-received by critics and audiences and earns robust viewership, Season 3 will be a no-brainer.

The first three episodes of Twisted Metal Season premiere on Peacock later this month on July 31. Check out the up-to-date trailer above and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the show.
