It’s already been two years since Miles Morales ventured Across The Spider-Verse. And frankly, we’re still high from the dizzying animation that the filmmakers delivered on that astonishing sequel – upping the ante from 2018’s Into The Spider-Verse so much so that it was more than worth the five-year wait. Now, we have good news and… well, not exactly bad news, but news you’ll want to make peace with. The good news? We now have an official release date for the third and final entry in the trilogy, the much-anticipated Beyond The Spider-Verse. The less-good news? It’s not out until summer 2027, so we’re only halfway there.
As confirmed at CinemaCon, Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse is due to hit the large screen on 4 June 2027. Once upon a time, the plan was for Across and Beyond to be released literally months apart; instead, it seems the filmmakers are taking their time to get it right, and to once again up their game. Since the first two films were so outstanding, it’s better not to rush this third chapter, which could likely deliver one of the greatest trilogies of all time. But the wait is extra gruelling since Across The Spider-Verse was very much a ‘Part One’, ending on a huge cliffhanger. Here’s hoping all involved have a stellar payoff in mind.
In the meantime, we have a bunch of fresh art from the film – all released at CinemaCon, and teasing fresh art styles, up-to-date looks at Miles’ villainous alt-universe self, and lots of eye-sizzling colours. Yes please.
The threequel is once again written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Dave Callaham, who penned Across. But the directors line-up is getting a switcheroo. Justin K. Thompson, one of the three directors of Across, is returning, while the other director is Bob Persichetti, who was one of three directors on Into. Though it’s wild to think we’ll see Avengers: Doomsday, the freshly-titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Avengers: Secret Wars before the Spider-Verse trilogy eventually concludes, in Lord, Miller and all involved we trust.
