Don’t you just hate it when you’ve popped the ‘Out Of Office’ on, got your sunnies and shorts ready, and are just about to enjoy some switched off, chilled out family time on holiday, only for work to get in the way of your jollies? Hutch Mansell is a man who can sympathise. The newly released, violent AF first trailer for Timo Tjahjanto’s action-thriller sequel Nobody 2 sees Bob Odenkirk’s government-assassin-turned-family-man-turned-assassin-again Hutch heading out to catch some rays with his family in bright Plummerville, only to find his trip swiftly derailed by a series of encounters with a crooked theme park owner (John Ortiz), a bent lawman (Colin Hanks), and a frankly terrifying, Sharon Stone shaped crime boss. As you may imagine, Plummerville becomes Pummelville real quick — just check out the teaser below and see for yourself;
And here we were thinking Ilya Naishuller’s original Nobody was pretty brutal. This first proper look at Nobody 2 may start with Odenkirk’s Hutch living it up with wife Becca (Connie Nielsen), dad David (Christopher Lloyd), and his kids, but it’s not long before some choice words at the fair devolves into Hutch wailing on an employee with a teddy picker, a whack-a-mole hammer, and the glass top of a pinball machine. From there, things quickly go from bad to worse as the Mansell clan’s holiday is put on hold while daddy goes to work, scrapping on day-tripper boats, roping in brother Harry (RZA) when things get ponderous, and going toe-to-toe with a purple-spectacled Stone, who commands her crew to go “scorched Earth” on our hero. “I just wanted a break,” sighs Hutch at one point. Probably should’ve gone to Pontins rather than drug ring hotspot Plummerville then, thought us.
Here’s the (abridged) official synopsis for the movie — as if we needed a plot to be 100% locked in: “Four years after he inadvertently took on the Russian mob, Hutch remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organization and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs. Much as he likes the slam-bang action of his “job,” Hutch and his wife Becca (Nielsen) find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids (Gage Munroe, Paisley Cadorath) on a miniature getaway with Hutch’s dad (Lloyd) in tow. […] When a minor encounter with some town bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator (Ortiz) and his shady sheriff (Hanks), Hutch finds himself the focus of the most unhinged, blood-thirsty crime boss he (or anyone) has ever encountered (Stone).
When director Tjahjanto spoke to Empire back in November 2024, the Indonesian filmmaker said his movie sees Odenkirk, who survived a near-fatal heart attack while filming Better Call Saul back in 2021, “back at it in full throttle.” After seeing this trailer for Hutch’s second outing, we don’t doubt him. Make sure to put the ‘Out Of Office’ on then when Nobody 2 hits cinemas on 15 August.
