EXCLUSIVE: Canadian distribution veteran Charles Tremblay has been appointed to head TIFF: The Market, which is scheduled to debut in September 2026 alongside the festival.

Tremblay most recently served at Mubi and has worked for more than 20 years acquiring and distributing films in Canada.

He co-founded Metropole Films Distribution with Mongrel Media and served as managing director for 11 years.

In 2017, he co-launched with mk2 the Canadian distributor mk2 | Mile End. When the joint venture was acquired by Sphere Media and became Sphere Films in 2022, Tremblay served as president of Sphere Films until he departed in 2024.

At Mubi, he oversaw the Canadian release of The Substance, Queer, and Maria among other titles. He began his career as a lawyer before joining UTA as a trainee agent.

Geoff Macnaughton, TIFF’s vice president of market programming and theatrical, will report to Tremblay, as will the existing industry team.

TIFF: The Market representatives will be hosting meetings with potential exhibitors at a Downtown pop-up from September 4-10.

Accroding to a blast sent to industry attendees on Thursday evening, the pop-up will enable visitors to sample a tangible first look at the market’s exhibitor opportunities, programmatic pillars, and strategic partnerships options for the next evolution in the global screen business”.

The official market venues are expected to be announced in the coming months. This year’s edition of TIFF kicks off next week and runs September 4-14.
