Just one day after the first official poster for The Old Guard 2 was released, the action sequel just got another thrilling update. Netflix has officially unveiled the first trailer for The Old Guard 2, which will see Oscar-winner Charlize Theron step back into her iconic role of Andromache Scythia, aka Andy, for the first time in five years. The film will also return The Old Guard stars such as Matthias Schoenaerts and Chiwetel Ejiofor to their roles as Booker and Copley, while also adding novel talent such as Henry Golding and Uma Thurman. Theron says, “there’s something for everyone in this movie,” and ensures that “fans who love the first film and are looking for insane action” are sure to be pleased.

The Old Guard 2 follows Booker (Schoenaerts), now in exile after his betrayal at the end of the first film, and Quynh (Veronica Ngô) on the hunt for revenge after escaping an underwater prison. Meanwhile, Andy (Theron) grapples with her newfound mortality as a novel threat emerges that will transform the landscape of the life she’s known for so many years. The first trailer showcases the best looks yet at Thurman’s character, who will seemingly play the villain who is referred to as “The First Immortal.” The team, which also consists of Joe (Marwan Kenzari), Nicky (Luca Marinelli), and James (Ejiofor), turns to Luca (Golding) for assist unlocking the key to their mortal existence. After Gina Prince-Bythewood directed The Old Guard, Netflix has enlisted Victoria Mahoney to direct the sequel. Collider also conducted an exclusive interview with Mahoney about the film where she teases the action and star-studded cast.

What Scores Did ‘The Old Guard’ Earn on Rotten Tomatoes?

The Old Guard earned a “certified fresh” 80% score from critics as well as a 72% rating from general audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics hailed the sophisticated take on an action movie that, despite falling captive to a few common genre traps, still delivers some best-in-class fight sequences and a story that mostly holds up. The Old Guard is the seventh-highest rated movie of Charlize Theron’s career, according to Rotten Tomatoes. It falls well behind her highest-rated movie, Mad Max: Fury Road (97%), but is much closer to Monster, the 2003 serial killer film that earned an 82% score.
