1-2 Special has acquired US rights to Christian Petzold’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight entry Miroirs No. 3 and plans a theatrical release.
Metrograph previously held North American rights, however it is understood the film was back on the market by Cannes, and The Match Factory negotiated the deal on behalf of the filmmakers with 1-2 Special. Metrograph Films had not responded at time of writing.
Miroirs No. 3 reunites Petzold with star Paula Beer, with whom he has previously collaborated on Transit, Undine, and Afire, winner of the 2023 Berlin grand jury prize.
Petzold’s first feature to play Cannes, Miroirs No. 3 follows Laura, an aspiring pianist whose life is upended after miraculously surviving a car crash. Petzold regulars Barbara Auer, Matthias Brandt, and Enno Trebs round out the key cast.
Petzold’s Schramm Film Koerner Weber Kaiser produced with co-producers ZDF and Arte. Funding comes from Filmförderungsanstalt (FFA), Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM), Deutscher Filmförderfonds (DFFF), and Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB).
The Match Factory represents the Petzold library, which includes Phoenix, Barbara, and early works such as The State I Am I.
