It seems like only yesterday that Christopher Nolan was giving us a first glimpse at Oppenheimer with all kinds of moody, black-and-white teasers and slow-mo nuclear reactions. If you’ll remember, that film turned out pretty well for him. And the legendary filmmaker is far from resting on his laurels after sweeping the Oscars. No, he’s going even bigger than ever before with The Odyssey, his Homeric blockbuster with an absolutely stacked cast, led by Matt Damon as Odysseus. With the film set to hit screens in just over a year’s time – 17 July 2026, to be exact – the promo trail has officially begun. Here’s your first look at The Odyssey poster, delivered in the usual Nolan font (Helvetica Neue Black, if you were interested), and with an ominous tagline: Defy The Gods.

Well, that’s dramatic. The film may well be Nolan’s first foray into mythical territory, given that Odysseus’ long journey home sees him meet all kinds of literal monsters. Or maybe the filmmaker has a more grounded take on the material. Either way, that broken statue imagery, flickering embers, and powerful tagline promises another uncompromising epic from the director.

But that’s not all – there’s a trailer for The Odyssey too. The catch? It’s only in cinemas for now, fitting given Nolan’s unwavering support of the big-screen experience. In time, it will end up online. But if you’re desperate for a first glimpse at what Nolan’s cooking this time around, maybe head to your local multiplex in the coming days. (Since Jurassic World Rebirth is the substantial fresh release from Universal this week, the studio also releasing The Odyssey, that might be a wise film of choice.) Could this one be another gold statue magnet for Nolan and co? We’ll have to wait and (ody)see.
