In a captivating discussion organized by the “CineGouna” platform and moderated by writer Mariam Naoum, renowned fashion designer Nahed Nasrallah shared insights from her journey in the fashion world during the closing day of the El Gouna Film Festival.
Nahed recounted her unexpected entry into the field of fashion design. Initially, she pursued studies in economics and political science and aspired to become a tour guide. However, her career took a significant turn with her first project on the film “Adieu Bonaparte” by director Youssef Chahine. This opportunity sparked her passion for designing costumes that deeply reflect characters. Nahed elaborated, “Costume design is not just about aesthetics; it’s about a profound connection with the drama and enhancing the narrative.”
She highlighted the challenge of working with Youssef Chahine, which pushed her to hone her skills and focus on intricate details, notably showcased in the film “Bab El Shams,” which demanded immense visual effort. Nahed explained that her approach to costume design is rooted in understanding the cultural and social dimensions of characters and fostering close collaboration with directors and the production team.
Addressing generational differences, she noted that the current generation has a strong background in advertising, whereas her generation was more specialized in cinema.
The session concluded with praise from several actors, including actress Salwa Mohamed, who commended Nahed’s methodical approach to working with the crew, emphasizing her meticulous attention to detail and equal treatment of all team members, from lead actors to extras.
