EXCLUSIVE: Distrib Films has acquired US rights to Corsican director Frederic Farrucci’s second feature The Mohican that premiered at last year’s Venice Film Festival in the Horizons Extra section.
Alexis Manenti stars as a goatherd on the Corsican coast pressured by local mafia to leave his land, who finds himself the victim of a manhunt after he unwittingly kills a man sent to intimidate him. The cast also includes Mara Taquin, Pietri Théo Frimigacci, Paul Garatte and Marie-Pierre Nouveau.
Be For Films handles international sales for the film that has already sold to multiple territories. Ad Vitam released the film in February in France where it sold more than 100,000 tickets (€730,000).
The Mohican is produced by Céline Chapdaniel and Diane Jassem of Koro Films. Co-producers are Atelier de production, Novoprod, and Les Films Velvet.
Distrib Films CEO François Scippa-Kohn tells Screen: “This environmental western is radical, daring and takes on the reality of a unique and sublime territory, namely Corsica, with great finesse.”
Distrib Films plans to release the film in September of this year, but will also offer it to US cinemas, festivals and film societies for summer bookings.
