“There was something pretty magical about the whole thing.” Disney has unveiled the official trailer for a behind-the-scenes documentary film titled Not Just a Goof, arriving to watch streaming on Disney+ next week. Just in time for the 30th anniversary of A Goofy Movie! If anyone’s celebrating? The doc explores the untold story of the making of A Goofy Movie – a 1995 American animated musical comedy-adventure film produced by Walt Disney Television Animation. It follows a juvenile innovative team tackling their first Disney feature, its initial disappointment at the box office, and its surprising resurgence decades later. A direct-to-video sequel to the film titled An Extremely Goofy Movie was released in 2000. Through interviews with the key figures involved in A Goofy Movie’s creation, as well as occasional, previously unreleased archival footage & stunning animation, this gets inside the studio’s inner workings and provides an unfiltered perspective on behind-the-scenes magic. It’s a must-watch for Disney enthusiasts juvenile & aged. Sounds great! Check it out.

In 2022, directors Christopher Ninness and Eric Kimelton set out to make a plain documentary about their favorite Disney film. Then they discovered the intricate power of art, and how a character as silly as Goofy can mean so much to so many people. So begins the untold story behind that unlikely cult-classic, A Goofy Movie. This captivating account reveals how a team of untested juvenile filmmakers took on the challenge of building their first feature around an iconic Disney character, without realizing the obstacles, clashes, and victories awaiting them. Not Just a Goof is co-directed by doc filmmakers Eric Kimelton & Christopher Ninness, both making their feature directorial debut with this doc film. Produced by Scott Seibold, and executive produced by animation legend Don Hahn. Disney will debut the Not Just a Goof doc streaming on Disney+ starting on April 7th, 2025 this spring.
