FX is welcoming those brave enough back into the world of Alien, with the debut trailer for the network’s upcoming series, Alien: Earth. The first of its kind, the episodic project will take the story first made renowned by Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic and transform the next chapter into small-screen form. From the brain of Fargo series creator, Noah Hawley, the show promises to give audiences an experience unlike anything they’ve seen in the past with plenty of modern jumpscares and jaw-dropping moments along the way.
Promising to pay homage to the treasured film series that got its latest addition through last year’s Alien: Romulus, the first few seconds of the Alien: Earth trailer show some sights that will immediately catch the attention of fans. Digging into the heart of the modern series, we’re taken to the year 2120 at Earth’s Neverland Research Island. It’s there that we see the creation of Sydney Chandler’s so-called hybrid (half human, half synthetic), Wendy. Next, we see a space vessel crash into Prodigy City, with Wendy offering up her aid as well as a handful of other synthetic beings to go on a search and rescue mission and obtain whatever goodies are contained on the ship. Upon their arrival, they discover that five never-before-seen lifeforms were in transit on the ship, and — well — you can guess what happens next as all hell breaks loose all in the name of science.
Through his work behind FX’s anthology series, Fargo, Hawley has been known to put together a dynamite cast and Alien: Earth will be no different. In addition to Chandler, who audiences will recognize from Olivia Wilde’s Don’t Worry Darling and the Apple TV+ series, Sugar, the production also stars Timothy Olyphant (Scream 2), Essie Davis (The Babadook), Babou Ceesay (Into the Badlands), Alex Lawther (Andor), Samuel Blenkin (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Lily Newmark (Sex Education), Adrian Edmondson (The Young Ones), Kit Young (Out of Darkness), David Rysdahl (No Exit), Sandra Yi Sencindiver (Geek Girl), Adarsh Gourav (The White Tiger), Moe Bar-El (The Bureau), Jonathan Ajayi (Vigil), and Diêm Camille (The Great Silence).
What About the Film Franchise?
Following the massive success of Fede Álvarez’s 2024 box office juggernaut, Alien: Romulus, audiences have been clamoring for more from the spacey horror universe. While no Alien projects are currently reported to be in the works, the upcoming arrival of Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands teases that something may be on the horizon. Eagle-eyed viewers who tuned in for the trailer pointed out that Elle Fanning’s character has the markings of a Weyland-Yutani synthetic — which appears to have the promise of merging the two beloved franchises back together after all these years.
Check out the trailer for Alien: Earth above and tune into FX on August 12 to watch the madness unfold.
